To help deal with the injury riddled blue line corps, the Canadiens announced the signing of free agent defenceman Marc-Andre Bergeron to a 1 year $750,000 contract. Bergeron has a bomb from the point, but is undersized at 5'10, 197 lbs. by NHL standards. He's spent time with the Oilers, Islanders, Ducks, and last year with the Wild. He scored 14 goals and added 18 assists last season in 72 games. In looking at those numbers, I would assume that he was still a free agent because he is suspect at best in his own end. Regardless, picking up a guy like this who will help the PP and add some more depth to the back end, all for $750K is a very good move. No word on when he will be playing his first game with the Habs.
